Tightening up fashion: There’s no need to sacrifice style in wintery weather

Now that the leaves have changed, the temperature has dropped and snowfall is on its way, we must say goodbye to the mini skirts, short dresses and summer shorts … or do we? Thanks to a popular new style, summer outfits can be reinvented with a winter-appropriate look, allowing fashionistas to show off their figures while remaining toasty warm.Patterned tights, which come in various colors, from green to pink, and different patterns, like floral or polka dot, allow wearers to be fun and creative with their winter style. Here, I offer a few outfit options that involve this new trend.Option #1:Patterned tights and high wasted jean shorts: This option is great because it is so unexpected. When I think of jean shorts, I think summer and that’s that. Now, by wearing patterned tights under the shorts, you are able to stay cozy while showing off those beautiful legs. Dark green tights could be great around the holidays, and tan is the perfect option to give the appearance of a bare leg.Option #2:Layering different patterns with solids: By wearing two pairs of tights, wearers are not only extra warm, but they get to create two looks with one outfit. A great way to do this would be to wear a solid color on bottom and then a colorful patterned pair on top, like a light brown first layer with a pink floral pattern over it.Option #3:The classic little black dress with a colorful pair of patterned tights: We all love our little black dress, and it can be hard to surrender wearing it when the weather gets cold. A great way to be able to wear a short dress all year long is to pair it with tights.Often times, a black dress with black tights is too much of the same color, and black tights can take away from an adorable dress. To solve this problem, pair the dress with some patterned tights.Black patterned tights can help keep the all black sleek look, with a peek at the skin that breaks up the overwhelming mass of color. Or, if you’re feeling a little more playful, wear a pair of bright red or light pink patterned tights.Option #4:Patterned tights with high socks and combat boots: In the cold weather, layers are a must, whether it be doubling up on sweaters or jackets, to wearing two pairs of socks. Why should it be any different when it comes to legwear? A great way to stay warm without having to wear bulky sweatpants is to wear a pair (or two) of patterned tights with calf or knee-high socks. Some great options are baseball style socks, or just plain black or nude.Pairing this look with some combats or a heavy pair of snow boots is perfect for the weather and fashion alike.Do not:Wear patterned tights with short t-shirts: Tights are not pants, and showing your behind, even if the tights aren’t see through, makes an outfit look incomplete and makes people wonder if you forgot your pants. Always be sure that your top reaches at least you’re upper thigh.Do not:Wear a colorful pair of tights with a colorful top: Color is great, but being bold in too many areas can make an outfit go from unique and cute to gaudy. If you’re wearing a colorful top, stick to a simple pair of tights, and vice versa. Every outfit should have just one statement piece; otherwise it will cheapen the look all together.
